Kids Learn to Code with Robots

Summer STEM Code Camps for Kids in King County, WA

Summer is just around the corner and that means… warm weather, swimming, barbecues and SUMMER CAMP. Kids program robots, test their own Minecraft Mods, or create new games with circuits. Girls and boys learn, play, and make memories. Best of all, they gain confidence as they meet challenges. Campers have fun exploring and creating the world of technology with Minecraft, robots, animations, circuits and photography! And for teens, we offer game coding with Python and JavaScript, starter programming languages ideal for the coder who’s ready to move beyond visual block programming.

Our camps are designed to be half-day, but can be combined with other half-day camps for a Full Day Camp Experience.  We have several great partners who help us to bring these camps to you: City of RedmondCity of KirklandYMCA Seattle Eastside, and Bricks for Kidz.

Minecraft Mash-Up 1: Mods and Circuits

Ages: 8-11, beginner – intermediate

Love to play Minecraft? At TechVenture’s Minecraft Mashup 1 summer camp, kids level-up, learning how to program Mods and build electronics in a Minecraft world. We use a Minecraft Mod coding platform which teaches students through engaging tutorials and an easy-to-use coding interface. Students are able to mod several aspects of Minecraft, while learning a valuable lifelong skill: coding. Those who are ready can peek under the covers to try JavaScript coding. To learn more about how and why computers work, we’ve chosen Piper computer kits where students assemble electronics to solve puzzles and challenges within a Minecraft adventure map. How cool is that? One of our most popular camps, these fill fast!

Minecraft Mashup 2: Code & Invent

Ages: 8-11, beginner – intermediate

Is your child a fan of Minecraft? Enjoys building or creating things, in the real or virtual world? In this TechVenture camp, kids learn the basics of coding Mods in a Minecraft world; and practice hands-on tinkering with circuits to build simple and fun inventions with the Micro:bit. Students take their ideas from concept to design to results, exercising their minds in critical thinking and problem solving. This camp combines the thrilling world of engineering with the challenge of writing code! And best of all, campers take home their micro:bit at the end of the week to continue tinkering and learning at home.

Code Camp: Games and Robots

Ages: 8-11, beginner – intermediate

TechVenture’s Games and Robots code camp is a mash-up of  digital games and robotics. Students use MIT’s Scratch and Wonder’s Dash Robots to learn the fundamentals of computer programming. They participate in the Robot Tossing Competition and other fun projects. While collaborating with partners, students develop math, and problem-solving skills. They gain confidence in their understanding of computer science through game design and play. Unplugged activities keep kid’s bodies moving and minds engaged.

Code Camp Jr: Animations and Robots

Ages: 5-7, beginner – intermediate

Is your child curious about robots? Loves animation?  TechVenture’s Code Camp Jr. provides young children with a fun introduction to technology. Using Scratch Jr, children learn to program their own interactive stories on a tablet computer. Taking it a step further, children partner together to work with Wonder’s Robots, programming their bots to put on a dance party, navigate paths and more. In the process, they learn to solve problems, design projects, and express themselves creatively. Girls and boys love the thrill of coding and controlling their environment. Don’t worry, kids don’t spend the whole time plugged in. Engaging unplugged activities get kid’s bodies moving too.

Digital Photography: Shoot & Share

Ages: 9-11, beginner – intermediate

Does your kid have an artistic eye? TechVenture’s Digital Photography Camp provides an exciting mix of arts and STEM. Kids learn to take great photos and use them to tell a story. Code Camp: Python Starter

Ages: 10-13, beginner

Enjoy playing games or solving problems?  In this Python starter camp, TechVenture combine Python programming and electronics for curious minds to code and make. Students learn how to use Python’s fun and easy programming language to create quizzes, guessing games, and basic arcade games. We then add in hands-on tinkering time with a hand-held electronics kit to build and program simple inventions. Prior programming experience using block platform or text-based languages is helpful, but not required. Our coaches guide campers at any skill level.

This camp is only available 1 week through the City of Redmond Teens program, week of August 6th.

Game Coding w/ Javascript
